2019 Holiday Shoe Drive is almost over. 800+ pairs of shoes for kids at 25 schools on December 16.
Help the children by pledging shoes or donating cash with the buttons above TODAY!!
When a child came to play on a cold rainy day, barefoot and carrying his shoes, we had to know more. Why would a 6-year old boy prefer walking barefooted over wet pavement and through mud and wet grass, to wearing his shoes?
It turned out that he did this regularly, because his only pair of shoes were cast-off women’s shoes that were too small and hurt his feet. His parents could not afford to buy him replacements.
We wondered how many children in our community needed shoes, so we called 2 elementary schools and offered to ask people for donations if the schools would tell us the specifics – how many pairs of shoes were needed, and in what sizes. We were not prepared for the response.
The number was huge. From just TWO phone calls, we received EIGHTY FIVE SPECIFIC REQUESTS for shoes, for children whose parents could not afford to buy them.
That was what started ShoeLady.org, just before Christmas, 2013.
Since then ShoeLady.org has incorporated in the State of Virginia as ShoeLady.Org, Inc., and has received non-profit status with the IRS as a 501c(3) organization.
We have expanded our program to include twenty schools on the Peninsula and in Gloucester in 2019; we expect to provide around 700 pairs of shoes this year. We will not stop here. Children everywhere need good shoes year-round.
We have a huge, local, immediate need. Can you help us? Donate today!
1. COMPLETE the Shoelady Pledge Form
2. RECEIVE DONOR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM: We will reply to your email with a confirmation email immediately.
3. RECEIVE YOUR SHOE ASSIGNMENT. After we receive requests from schools (late November), we will send a second message that includes one Donor Commitment form for each pair of shoes you have promised to provide. The forms will contain all of the specific details (each donor is matched with a specific child in need, previously identified by the public schools).
4. DONATE NEW SHOES:
· Purchase new shoes of the size and type specified on the Donor Commitment Form
· Label the Shoe packaging with the ShoeLady Number from ShoeLady assignment email (printing the form is the easiest way, but affixing an easily-to-read label is fine too)
· Deliver or ship the shoes (by the need date) to:
